Wash Trading Causes Suggested Price to Display as close to Zero, Affecting NFT Value
Description: I have identified a critical issue within your NFT marketplace where rampant wash trading activities are adversely impacting the functionality of the "suggested price" feature. Due to these manipulative trading practices, the algorithm that calculates the suggested price for NFTs displays a value of zero. This glitch significantly undermines the perceived value of affected NFTs on the platform, potentially eroding trust among your users and causing financial loss to NFT owners. The reason for the wash trading is that bad actors are abusing sales within a single block/transaction, using a very low sale price, to launder and obfuscate NFT transactions. Steps to Reproduce: -Navigate to the marketplace and select an NFT that has been subject to high volumes of transactions in a short period coupled with close to zero prices for the last sales. -Observe the "suggested price" indicated on the NFT's detail page. -Notice that, for NFTs involved in wash trading, the suggested price is displayed as close to zero. Expected Behavior: The "suggested price" feature should accurately reflect the market value of an NFT based on legitimate sales history, price floor and market dynamics, without being skewed by manipulative trading practices. Actual Behavior: For NFTs targeted by wash trading, the suggested price erroneously shows as close to zero, directly impacting the perceived market value of these NFTs. Impact: This issue not only affects the valuation of individual NFTs but also threatens the overall integrity of the marketplace. It discourages genuine buyers and sellers, potentially leading to a loss of user confidence and reduced platform engagement. Suggested Fix: Implementing more robust detection mechanisms for identifying and mitigating wash trading activities. Additionally, revising the algorithm that calculates the suggested price to account for abnormal trading patterns could help prevent this issue from recurring. Additional Information: This issue has been reported by multiple users over the past 4 months. It seems to be more prevalent among NFTs within collections such as game and utility NFTs.
